Master File
Purpose: Global design system - colors, typography, spacing, components
Contains:
Complete design system recommendation
Landing page pattern
UI style guidelines
Color palette (hex codes)
Typography pairing (Google Fonts)
Key effects and animations
Anti-patterns to avoid
Pre-delivery checklist
Page Overrides
Purpose: Page-specific deviations from Master rules
Contains:
Only rules that differ from Master
Page-specific color variations
Unique typography for special sections
Page-specific components
Basic Workflow
Generate and persist Master design system
Creates design-system/MASTER.md with global rules
Create page-specific overrides (optional)
Creates design-system/pages/{page}.md with deviations
Retrieve hierarchically when building pages
Check page file first, fall back to Master
Commands
Persist Master Design System
Generate and save to design-system/MASTER.md:
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "<query>" --design-system --persist -p "Project Name"
Example:
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "saas dashboard analytics" --design-system --persist -p "DataFlow"
Terminal output:
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| TARGET: DataFlow - RECOMMENDED DESIGN SYSTEM |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| [Full design system output] |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
============================================================
✅ Design system persisted to design-system/dataflow/
📄 design-system/dataflow/MASTER.md (Global Source of Truth)
📖 Usage: When building a page, check design-system/dataflow/pages/[page].md first.
If exists, its rules override MASTER.md. Otherwise, use MASTER.md.
============================================================
Creates:
design-system/dataflow/MASTER.md
Persist with Page Override
Generate Master + page-specific override:
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "<query>" --design-system --persist -p "Project Name" --page "<page-name>"
Example:
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "checkout payment secure" --design-system --persist -p "DataFlow" --page "checkout"
Terminal output:
============================================================
✅ Design system persisted to design-system/dataflow/
📄 design-system/dataflow/MASTER.md (Global Source of Truth)
📄 design-system/dataflow/pages/checkout.md (Page Overrides)
📖 Usage: When building a page, check design-system/dataflow/pages/[page].md first.
If exists, its rules override MASTER.md. Otherwise, use MASTER.md.
============================================================
Creates:
design-system/dataflow/MASTER.md (if doesn’t exist)
design-system/dataflow/pages/checkout.md
Custom Output Directory
Save to a custom directory:
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "<query>" --design-system --persist -p "Project" --output-dir /path/to/docs
Hierarchical Retrieval
Retrieval Logic
Check for page-specific override
Read design-system/{project}/pages/{page}.md
If page override exists, use it with Master as fallback
Page rules override Master rules
If no page override, use Master exclusively
Read design-system/{project}/MASTER.md
Context-Aware Prompt
When building a page, use this prompt pattern:
I am building the [Page Name] page. Please read design-system/{project}/MASTER.md.
Also check if design-system/{project}/pages/{page-name}.md exists.
If the page file exists, prioritize its rules.
If not, use the Master rules exclusively.
Now, generate the code...
Example:
I am building the Checkout page. Please read design-system/dataflow/MASTER.md.
Also check if design-system/dataflow/pages/checkout.md exists.
If the page file exists, prioritize its rules.
If not, use the Master rules exclusively.
Now, generate the checkout page with Stripe integration...
Real-World Example
Scenario: E-commerce Platform
Step 1: Generate Master Design System
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "ecommerce fashion luxury" --design-system --persist -p "Luxe Boutique"
Creates: design-system/luxe-boutique/MASTER.md
Contents:
# Luxe Boutique - Master Design System
## Pattern
Feature-Rich Showcase + Hero-Centric
## Style
Liquid Glass + Glassmorphism
- Premium look with frosted glass effects
- Subtle depth and shadows
## Colors
- Primary: #000000 (Black)
- Secondary: #FFFFFF (White)
- Accent: #D4AF37 (Gold)
- Background: #FAFAFA (Off-White)
- Text: #1A1A1A (Near Black)
## Typography
- Heading: Playfair Display (Serif, Elegant)
- Body: Montserrat (Sans-serif, Clean)
- Google Fonts: https://fonts.google.com/share?selection.family=...
## Key Effects
- Chromatic aberration on hero images
- Fluid animations (400-600ms)
- Subtle parallax on scroll
## Anti-Patterns
- Vibrant & Block-based design
- Playful colors
- Fast, bouncy animations
Step 2: Create Checkout Page Override
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "checkout payment secure trust" --design-system --persist -p "Luxe Boutique" --page "checkout"
Creates: design-system/luxe-boutique/pages/checkout.md
Contents:
# Checkout Page - Design Overrides
## Override: Colors
- Success: #10B981 (Green) - for payment success
- Warning: #F59E0B (Amber) - for validation warnings
- Danger: #EF4444 (Red) - for payment errors
## Override: Style
- Reduce glass effects (performance)
- Use solid backgrounds for form inputs (readability)
- Increase contrast for accessibility (WCAG AAA)
## Override: Typography
- Body: 16px minimum (up from 14px) for form labels
- Error text: 14px bold in red
## Additional Components
- Trust badges (SSL, Payment icons)
- Progress indicator (3 steps: Cart > Info > Payment)
- Loading spinner for payment processing
## Checkout-Specific Effects
- Disable parallax (performance)
- Faster transitions (150ms) for form validation
- Subtle green glow on successful field validation
Step 3: Build Checkout Page with Hierarchical Retrieval
AI Prompt:
I am building the Checkout page. Please read design-system/luxe-boutique/MASTER.md.
Also check if design-system/luxe-boutique/pages/checkout.md exists.
If the page file exists, prioritize its rules.
If not, use the Master rules exclusively.
Now, generate the checkout page with Stripe integration...
AI Behavior:
Reads design-system/luxe-boutique/MASTER.md
Finds design-system/luxe-boutique/pages/checkout.md exists
Uses Master colors (Black, White, Gold) except for success/warning/danger (overridden to Green/Amber/Red)
Uses Master typography (Playfair Display + Montserrat) but increases body text to 16px (override)
Disables parallax (override) but keeps other Master effects
Adds checkout-specific components (trust badges, progress indicator)

When to Use Persistence
Use persistence when:
Building multi-page applications
Working on long-term projects
Maintaining design consistency across sessions
Collaborating with team members
Different pages need different design rules
Don’t use persistence for:
Single-page prototypes
Quick experiments
One-off landing pages
When design system is still evolving rapidly
Version Control
Commit design system files to version control:
git add design-system/
git commit -m "feat: add DataFlow design system with checkout overrides"
git push
Benefits:
Track design system evolution
Collaborate with designers/developers
Revert to previous design decisions
Branch for design experiments
Team Collaboration
Designer → Developer Workflow
Designer generates design system
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "beauty spa" --design-system --persist -p "Serenity"
Designer commits to repo
git add design-system/serenity/
git commit -m "feat: add Serenity Spa design system"
git push
Developer pulls and uses in prompts
I am building the Booking page. Read design-system/serenity/MASTER.md...
AI Assistant → AI Assistant
Different AI assistants can use the same design system:
Claude Code generates Master design system
Cursor uses Master to build dashboard
Windsurf uses Master + checkout override to build checkout
All assistants read from design-system/ folder.
Updating Design Systems
Update Master
Regenerate Master file (overwrites existing):
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "saas dashboard dark" --design-system --persist -p "DataFlow"
Warning: This overwrites design-system/dataflow/MASTER.md
Update Page Override
Regenerate page override (overwrites existing):
python3 .shared/ui-ux-pro-max/scripts/search.py "checkout secure payment" --design-system --persist -p "DataFlow" --page "checkout"
Warning: This overwrites design-system/dataflow/pages/checkout.md
Manual Editing
You can manually edit Markdown files:
# Edit Master
vim design-system/dataflow/MASTER.md
# Edit page override
vim design-system/dataflow/pages/checkout.md
Troubleshooting
Design System Not Found
Problem: AI can’t find design system files
Solution: Check file paths
ls -la design-system/
ls -la design-system/{project}/
ls -la design-system/{project}/pages/
Page Override Not Working
Problem: AI uses Master rules instead of page overrides
Solution: Verify prompt includes page file check
Also check if design-system/{project}/pages/{page}.md exists.
If the page file exists, prioritize its rules.
Multiple Projects Conflict
Problem: Mixing design systems from different projects
Solution: Use project-specific folders
